IF CLAUSE

Conditional Sentences (sentence presupposition) is a form of complex sentences that we can use when we want to say that something is a result or consequence of the other depending on the situation. There are three types of Conditional Sentences.

Formula of Conditional Sentence

In general, this assumption sentences formula is as follows.
if + condition, result/consequence
without punctuation or commas:
result/consequence + if + condition

There are three types of Conditional Sentences.

Conditional Sentences Type I refer to the future.

Conditional Sentences Type II refer to situations in the present.

Conditional Sentences Type III refer to situations in the past.

Negatif if + condition

Rumus: if…not can be replaced with  unless.

Example conditional sentence: if…not and unless:

By using the formula negatif if, the conditional sentence as an example below.
  • If the students do not understand, they will raise their hand to ask.
  • Unless the students understand, they will raise their hand to ask.
